A Case Study on the AAC Intervention for Acquisition of Communication Functions of Nonverbal Children with Cri Du Chat Syndrome

Abstract
This case study is designed to examine the effect of the AAC intervention on the acquisition of communication functions of nonverbal children especially with CRI DU Chat Syndrome. Targeting two nonverbal children with the syndrome, the 8 weeks of AAC intervention (20 minutes for each and five times per week) designed to deliver clear voices of graphic symbols when the participants touched Super Talk. For training strategies, the participating children¡¯s favorite and unfavorite toys and food were associated with children¡¯s expression of demands, feelings and opinions. The AAC intervention seemed to improve communication functions of both children with CRI DU Chat Syndrome as they acquired expression skills that they could use to describe demands, feelings and opinions. Further, the communication functions were maintained even after the intervention was terminated.
